Today I was busy…
Just… busy. Surfing blogs, forums, and time managment sites. I think I do this as a defense mechanism against work. In any case I should be fine now. Going to attempt to get some of the phone game stuff in tonight.
What my biggest dillima is that I need to have a plan for Hypno-Joe. I don’t mean a design document, I mean a plan as to when i’ll have major “A-list” items done. So here’s the deal. Hypno-Joe is going to be a hybrid 2d-3d sidescrolling platform game. The “3D” part comes from the platforms themselves. The sprites are going to be hand drawn and hand animated by me. Remember my goal is to get done with Hypno-Joe this year AND get 100K USD from it. Okay I know might say this is impossible, and maybe it is, but that’s not the point. The point is to attempt something beyond my means, to get beyond my limitations. It doesn’t bother me that a game usually only really starts selling till after 6 months from release. It doesn’t bother me that it’s going to take a long time for just me to do the art. What matters is I try to compress what I can when I can, yet still retain quality.
First thing I gotta do is to make a basic prototype level. Nothing much more than the main character running and jumping on platforms. Then I add a few enemies, then soon the whole level expands to include the whole moveset for the main character, and some basic AI for enemies. Then after I have a “proof of concept”, I can either get help with the programming, or take my newly acquired c++ programming skills and build my engine. This will be tricky because of the 3d stuff which I have no idea about. I may drive myself to learn everything quickly and to get it done. Then again I may go at a snails pace.
I need to figure this out quick as the year is already starting to whiz by.
